Zelenskyy discussed with Erdogan the upcoming talks between Ukraine and Russia in Turkey

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, had a telephone conversation with the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The main topic of discussion was the upcoming negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. About this informs Haberturk.

According to Zelenskyi, in the conversation with Erdogan, key aspects of the meeting between Ukraine and Russia, which is to be held on the territory of Turkey, were discussed. He expressed gratitude for Turkey’s support and its willingness to facilitate the diplomatic process at the highest level. Zelenskyi emphasized the importance of a ceasefire and the need for international monitoring.

“We are ready for direct negotiations with Putin. And it is very important that we all work together in Europe to ensure long-term security. We will be in constant contact with America. We agreed with President Erdogan on further joint work for the sake of peace.” – emphasized Zelensky.

In turn, the President of Turkey confirmed his support for the aspirations to end the war.

“Turkey has become a country whose mediation is needed. At this stage, Russia-Ukraine-America and Europe agree to hold negotiations”, – emphasized Erdogan.

He added that Turkey is the only state that has gained the trust of all parties. “We have stated that we are ready to contribute to these negotiations and that we will be happy to host them. We see that a new window of opportunity has opened thanks to the latest contacts. We hope that the opportunity used this time will not be lost,” the Turkish leader said.

We will remind that on the night of May 11, during a press conference, Vladimir Putin refused to accept the initiative of Ukraine, the United States and the states of the “coalition of the determined” regarding the ceasefire from May 12. Instead, he proposed a return to the talks in Istanbul, resuming them from where they were suspended in 2022.
