Zelenskyy met with Tikhanovskaya for the first time and discussed sanctions against Belarus

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held his first personal meeting with Belarusian opposition leader Svitlana Tsihanouskaya in Lithuania, the politician’s press service reported. During the conversation, they touched upon the issues of holding Alexander Lukashenko accountable and strengthening the sanctions policy against the current leadership of Belarus.

Tsikhanouskaya expressed gratitude to Zelensky for supporting Belarusian democracy and noted that it is extremely important for the opposition that Ukraine separates the Belarusian people from the regime.

“It is very valuable that Kyiv understands the difference between the Belarusian people and the regime in Belarus”, – she said.

The opposition leader also stressed the need to hold Lukashenko accountable for the deportation of Ukrainian children and thanked Zelensky for facilitating the release of Belarusian political prisoners.

“Dictator Lukashenko must be held accountable for his actions”, – Tikhanovskaya noted.

In addition, the politician reported that she had received an invitation from the President of Ukraine to visit Kyiv.
