10 killed in fire at nursing home in Bosnia and Herzegovina

A fire broke out in a nursing home in northern Bosnia and Herzegovina, killing ten people. Radio Slobodna Evropa reports.

The deceased were residents of the facility. Their bodies will be sent to the Memorial Center for identification and autopsy. Approximately 20 people are under the supervision of doctors at the University Clinical Center in Tuzla. An investigative and operational team is working at the scene.

“Under favorable conditions, an on-site investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the fire and all other facts relevant to the investigation”, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said in a statement.

The fire broke out in the evening on the top floor of a nursing home. The head of the Tuzla region, Irfan Halilagic, told the BHRT public service that they are currently looking for a solution for the temporary accommodation of the facility’s residents. A large number of firefighters, as well as police and emergency services, participated in extinguishing the fire.

As a reminder, in July 2025, five people died in France as a result of a fire in a nursing home for people with disabilities. The fire broke out around 4:30 a.m. Monday at the facility, located in the commune of Montmorency, south of the city of Angoulême in southwestern France. The flames destroyed almost half of the building, a former farm measuring about 700 square meters.
