616 million hryvnias to the state budget: the tourism industry is recovering

In 2022, most Ukrainians did not feel like resting. The tourism industry, which has already suffered losses due to the coronavirus pandemic, has suffered even more. However, a gradual recovery of tourism was observed in 2023. The growth trend continued this year, and the ban on travel abroad for a significant part of the country’s population contributed to the intensive development of domestic tourism – Ukrainians began to discover the tourist charms of their own country.

Only in the first three months of 2024, the tourism industry paid more than UAH 616 million in taxes to the budget of Ukraine. This is a 61% increase compared to January-March 2023, but still less than before the start of a full-scale war. In the first quarter of 2021, taxes from tourism amounted to more than 629 million hryvnias.

General statistics

The number of entrepreneurs providing tourist services is gradually increasing in Ukraine. In January-March, they increased by 19%. In particular, the number of travel companies increased by 6% and the number of FOPs in the industry increased by 24%.

The state budget and local budgets receive the largest amount of taxes in the industry from hotels. In the first quarter, tax revenues from hotels amounted to 395.2 million hryvnias. This is 69% more than it was in January-March last year. In addition, the sector caught up with the indicators of 2021 – then, in the first quarter, 394.6 million hryvnias came to the budget from hotel activities.

Twice as many trips

Revenues to the budget from the activities of camping sites and parking lots for residential mobile homes also demonstrate positive dynamics.

“Tax revenues for the first quarter of the current year clearly demonstrate that tourism has not only adapted to difficult working conditions during martial law, but is also developing – it creates jobs and supports local communities,” he notes.
