A lawyer was detained in Kharkiv, who helped evaders flee abroad for $7,400: the prosecutor’s office
In Kharkiv, law enforcement officers suspected a lawyer who organized the illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine. He is accused of leading these actions, providing advice and instructions, as well as carrying out such actions by prior collusion with a group of persons for selfish motives. About this informs Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
As it became known, the lawyer created a scheme for illegal travel abroad for conscripted men. Clients turned to him for advice on the legal possibilities of crossing the border. However, the lawyer offered illegal options, earning significant sums from it. He demanded $7,400 from each client to arrange the escape.
According to the scheme, the evaders were supposed to come to Vinnytsia, where they were met by other participants of the illegal operation, who accompanied them further. Meanwhile, the lawyer was preparing a package of documents to ensure a smooth border crossing.
The law enforcement officers detained the lawyer in his office in Kharkiv. The court granted the request of the prosecutor’s office, choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention.
An investigation is currently underway, during which law enforcement officers are identifying all participants in the scheme and other episodes of the lawyer’s criminal activity.
