NABU and SAPO announce new suspicions in large-scale corruption case in the Supreme Court

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office have expanded the circle of suspects in the case of large-scale corruption in the Supreme Court. New suspicions were announced for three current judges and one retired judge.

According to data of the investigation, the defendants, while serving as judges of the Grand Chamber of the Supreme Court, received an illegal benefit for making a decision in the interests of the owner of the Finance and Credit group.

This is a dispute regarding the purchase and sale agreement for 40.19% of the shares of the Poltava Mining and Processing Plant, purchased in 2002 by a businessman. The former shareholders appealed this agreement, but the court of first instance refused to satisfy the claim. In 2022, the appeals court overturned this decision and declared the agreement invalid.

Further consideration of the case in the cassation instance was carried out by judges of the Grand Chamber of the Supreme Court. According to the investigation, in order to avoid losing the shares, the businessman in March and April 2023, through an intermediary, transferred $2.7 million to a lawyer, who was supposed to transfer the funds to the former chairman and judges of the Supreme Court for the adoption of the necessary decision.

Earlier, NABU and SAPO reported on searches in this case. The investigation is ongoing.
