A native of Kharkiv was detained on suspicion of espionage for the benefit of the Russian Federation

The SBU of the Kharkiv region exposed a local resident who was passing data on the location of the Ukrainian military to the enemy. The man faces responsibility for espionage under martial law.

About this informs Office of the Prosecutor General.

According to the investigation, at the beginning of April, the attacker contacted a representative of the Russian special services through a messenger. The occupiers set him the task of gathering information about the locations of Ukrainian defense forces in Kharkiv.

To do this, the man went around the city streets, looking for locations of the Ukrainian military. He put the found data on the Google Maps electronic map and handed it over to the enemy. This information could be used to launch missile attacks and drone attacks on Ukrainian defenders.

In addition, while working as a security guard in a shopping center, the man tried to find out from customers information about the Ukrainian military under the guise of a normal conversation.

The police arrested the suspect at his residence. During the search, a mobile phone was seized from him, which was used to communicate with a Russian agent.

The court decided to take the man into custody until the end of the investigation.

Currently, a pre-trial investigation is underway under the procedural guidance of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
