A pilot project of electronic checks “eCheck” has been launched in Ukraine

A pilot project called “eCheck” has been launched in Ukraine, a state program to introduce electronic checks in the banking system. This was announced by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko.

According to her, the government continues to simplify the conditions for doing business and support entrepreneurs even during the war. The pilot phase is being implemented in four banks — PrivatBank, FUIB, VST Bank and monobank, as well as in the Aurora, Fora, Auchan retail chains and Ukrnafta gas stations.

As the head of government noted, the innovation will allow businesses to save significant amounts of money every year.

“After all, printing one check costs 7 kopecks. Last year alone, according to the State Tax Service, Ukrainian entrepreneurs generated over 9 billion checks. In addition, this will help the environment. The thermal paper on which checks are printed usually contains bisphenols, which cannot be recycled,” Svyrydenko emphasized.

She explained that after paying by card — both in a physical store and online — a digital check will automatically appear in the buyer’s banking application. The document will be stored in electronic format and will have the same legal force for returning goods, exchanging or warranty service.

During the test period, buyers will be issued both paper and electronic versions of the check. At the end of 2025, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution that regulated the launch of a national electronic check. The goal of the initiative is to make shopping more convenient for citizens, reduce bureaucratic procedures for businesses, and provide the state with transparent statistics.

The service is being developed by the Ministry of Economy together with the Ministry of Digital Transformation, the “Diya” team, the Ministry of Finance, the State Tax Service, the National Bank, and payment systems.
