Serbia purchased Chinese ballistic missiles and declared a threat from Croatia, Albania and Kosovo

Serbia has acquired Chinese CM-400AKG air-to-surface ballistic missiles and adapted its MiG-29 fighters to carry them. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated that the country is strengthening its armaments due to the potential threat from Croatia, Albania and Kosovo. This was reported by Reuters.

Previously, photos of a Serbian aircraft with Chinese missiles installed appeared on the Internet. Vučić later confirmed the purchase of these weapons and stated that Serbia had become the first European operator of such missiles.

“We have a significant number of these missiles, and we will have even more,” he said.

The CM-400AKG is a supersonic air-to-surface ballistic missile capable of carrying a 150-kilogram high-explosive warhead or a 200-kilogram penetrating warhead. Its flight range is up to 400 kilometers.

Croatia has already criticized the purchase of these missiles, calling it a threat to regional stability, an attempt to change the military balance and another evidence of an intensifying arms race in the Balkans.

According to the International Institute for Peace Research, over the past five years Serbia has invested the most in its armed forces among the Western Balkan countries.

Later, Vučić also stated that he was afraid of the military alliance of Croatia, Albania and Kosovo, which, according to him, are allegedly only “waiting for a bigger conflict in the world to attack” Serbia.

“They are waiting for a moment in the future when a major conflict will break out in Europe and Russia and the Middle East. We are doing all this to protect ourselves. They are waiting for chaos in the world so that an opportunity will arise,” the Serbian president said.
