After Malyuk’s resignation, the SBU was temporarily headed by Major General Yevheniy Khmara
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Major General Yevhen Khmara as Head of the Security Service of Ukraine. Prior to that, he headed the Special Operations Center “A” of the SBU and was one of the key leaders of the agency’s special operations in recent years.
In his message, the President reported on the meeting with Yevhen Khmara and noted the work of Ukrainian special forces during the full-scale war:
“Meet with the Head of the Special Operations Center “A” of the Security Service of Ukraine Yevhen Khmara. “Grateful to Yevgeny and all our special forces soldiers for their extremely important combat work throughout all the years of the full-scale war.”.
The president also emphasized that Ukraine is achieving the necessary results in protecting the state, and emphasized the role of the military in this process: “all our soldiers who ensure this deserve respect and gratitude.”.
Yevgeny Khmara headed the Special Operations Center “A” of the SBU and participated in a number of important missions. In particular, his name is associated with the conduct of Operation “Web”, after which, according to sources, Russia lost a significant part of its strategic aviation. It was also reported that he led the operation to liberate Zmiiniy Island in 2023.
The President noted that the experience gained by Ukrainian special forces and the Special Operations Center “A” in Ukraine is planned to be scaled up. Separately, he reported that he and Yevhen Khmara discussed further steps in the systemic development of the SBU, as well as special operations that are being prepared.
