Due to the “toothless” position of the UN and ICRC, Russia continues to kill prisoners of war: Lubinets
Ukrainian ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets expressed his sharp indignation at the inaction of international organizations, in particular the UN and ICRC, in response to the shooting of Ukrainian prisoners of war by the Russian occupiers. He emphasized that verbal condemnations are no longer enough, but concrete actions are needed to bring the guilty to justice.
About this stated Dmytro Lubinets.
“Due to the toothless position of international organizations, Russia continues to kill our prisoners of war”,
– emphasized the official.
Lubinets criticized the lack of decisive steps by international organizations during the three years of the conflict, which led to Russia’s impunity in committing war crimes. He called for the creation of a tribunal or the opening of criminal proceedings to punish the guilty.
The Ombudsman expressed disappointment with the spinelessness of international organizations, which only deepens the conflict and the suffering of the civilian population. He emphasized the need for an immediate response to the war crimes committed by the Russian occupiers, in particular the shooting of prisoners of war near Krynkiv on April 7.
We will remind that the execution of prisoners of war near Krynkiv turned out to be a cruel manifestation of violence that continues on the territory of the Kherson region during the Russian occupation. The video, which appeared on social networks on April 7, shows how three Ukrainian soldiers are lying defenseless in a ditch while the occupiers are deliberately shooting them.
Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine’s ombudsman, immediately sent official letters to the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross, demanding that this horrific act be documented. According to media reports, the occupiers from the 328th regiment of the 104th division, among whom Serhiy Ishtuganov stands out, may be responsible for this crime. This commander participated in attempts to seize the Gostomel airfield near Kyiv from the very beginning of the invasion.
The distribution of videos of such crimes shows the lawlessness and impunity that continue in the occupied territories. The situation remains tense, and international responses to such events remain insufficient
