EU and the world

After talking with Orban, Fico said that the European Commission “resembles a ship sailing towards death”

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, after a telephone conversation with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, called on the European Union to “return to common sense,” referring, in particular, to the resumption of dialogue with Russia on energy supplies. He wrote about this on Facebook.

As is known, on the same day Orban called on the EU to “remove sanctions and restrictions” imposed against the Russian energy sector. He explained this position by the development of events in the Middle East. After that, Fico, for his part, also called on the European Union to “return to common sense.”

“The entire EU, and especially the European Commission, is beginning to resemble a ship sailing towards death when it comes to energy security,” the Slovak Prime Minister stressed.

He stated that the governments of Slovakia and Hungary “are doing everything possible to protect their national economies and citizens from the ideological blindness and incompetence of the EC, the evil president of Ukraine, and the consequences of the war against Iran.”

According to Fico, “the EU, and in particular the European Commission, must immediately resume dialogue with Russia and ensure a political and legal environment that which will allow individual member states and the EU as a whole to replenish their scarce gas and oil reserves and ensure the supply of these strategic raw materials from all possible sources and directions, including Russia”.

He also believes that the “senseless sanctions” that prohibit the import of Russian gas and oil “must be lifted”. In addition, Fico stated that “a separate EU initiative should be launched to end the war in Ukraine as soon as possible, and decisive measures should be taken to restore the Druzhba pipeline.”
