After Trump’s statements, Denmark plans to allocate $1.6 billion for the defense of Greenland

Denmark announced a significant increase in funding for Greenland’s defense needs shortly after US President-elect Donald Trump again expressed his desire to establish control over the island. About this informs BBC.
Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said the cost was in the “double-digit billions of kroner.” Although the exact amount has not been disclosed, but according to Danish media, it could be around 12-15 billion kroner, which is equivalent to at least 1.6 billion US dollars.
The funds will be used to purchase two new inspection ships and two long-range drones. In addition, there are plans to increase the staff of the Arctic Command in the capital of Greenland, Nuuk, and to modernize one of the island’s three main civilian airports to serve F-35 fighter jets.
“We have not invested enough in the Arctic for many years. Now we plan to strengthen our presence.” – said the minister.
It will be recalled that Donald Trump previously stated the importance of Greenland for ensuring US national security and global freedom. However, Prime Minister of Greenland Mute Egede responded that the island is not for sale.
