Almost 800 damaged houses were recorded in Odesa after the bad weather
In Odesa, the liquidation of the consequences of the natural disaster on September 30 continues. Commissions carry out surveys of the housing stock for further calculation of compensations. So far, almost 800 damaged houses have been recorded — about 500 high-rise buildings and 300 private houses. This was reported Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksiy Kuleba.
“As of October 3, almost 800 damaged houses have been recorded – this is almost 500 high-rise buildings and 300 private houses. People continue to report damage. Water pumping continues at 38 locations in the private sector. Almost 900,000 cubic meters of water have already been diverted, 147 tons of garbage have been removed, and 13 damaged building structures have been dismantled, the message says.
Part of the city remains without electricity, energy workers are working on the ground. Water and gas supply are functioning as usual. More than 200 “Points of invincibility” have been opened in the region. Almost three thousand people and about 660 pieces of equipment, including units from other regions, were involved in the liquidation of the consequences.
Let us remind you that on September 30, almost two months’ worth of precipitation fell in Odesa. The hydrometeorological center of the Black and Azov Seas announced the third (red) level of danger. During the day, 94 mm of precipitation fell in the city, of which 73 mm fell in the afternoon. This is the second indicator in the history of observations after the record on September 20, 2016, when 113 mm was recorded.
10 people died as a result of the bad weather, including a whole family of five. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted to the tragedy by instructing Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba to conduct a full review of actions in the city, including all circumstances that could have caused such consequences. According to the latter, more than 380 people were rescued during the downpour. Search operations have been completed, emergency recovery operations are ongoing.
