The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU) began monitoring the light petroleum products market after gas station chains recorded a significant increase in fuel prices in early March 2026. This was reported by the AMCU.
As the AMCU emphasizes, the main purpose of the inspection is to determine the presence or absence of violations of the legislation on the protection of economic competition by gas station operators.
As part of the control, on March 4, 2026, the committee sent market participants a request to provide the information necessary to clarify the reasons for the price increase, with the shortest possible time frame for providing data. After receiving the information, the AMCU will conduct an operational analysis and, if violations are detected, will take appropriate measures.
The Committee emphasizes that prices for light petroleum products are not regulated by the state, and the Ukrainian market is completely dependent on imports, therefore fluctuations in world prices directly affect the cost of fuel for consumers. The increase in fuel prices is a pan-European phenomenon and is observed not only in Ukraine.
During March 2–3, the average cost of gasoline in Ukraine increased by approximately UAH 2/l, exceeding UAH 65/l. Liquefied gas has risen in price to UAH 39.05/l, and diesel fuel to UAH 65.02/l.
Chairman of the Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy of the Verkhovna Rada, Danylo Hetmantsev, called on fuel market participants not to use panic to obtain excess profits.
