The body of the mayor of Dniprorudny, Zaporizhzhia region, Yevgeny Matveev, was returned to Ukraine as part of the latest exchange. He was a mayor in Russian captivity for 2 years and 8 months, where he was tortured and died tragically. About this reported Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhia Regional Military Administration.

“The Russians captured Dniprorudne, Zaporizhzhia region, at the end of February 2022. Later, they also captured the mayor – Yevgeny Matveev. He was held captive by the occupiers for 2 years and 8 months and was tortured. During the last exchange, his body was returned to Ukraine.” Fedorov said.

The head of the OVA remembered Matveev as a person with a great sense of duty and a true patriot.

“Always worked with people and for people’s sake, listened and helped everyone who needed it. He was strong-willed and principled. During the occupation, he did not leave the city or the people, he did everything to ensure the life of the community, constantly informed the population about the course of events and supported “, the message says.

In total, the bodies of 502 dead soldiers were returned to Ukraine as part of the latest exchange.
