Astronomical phenomena in 2025: what Ukrainians will see in the night sky

In 2025, Ukrainians will be able to observe many interesting astronomical phenomena, including planetary parades, partial solar eclipses, supermoons and bright shooting stars. Although total solar eclipses are not expected this year, the rest of the cosmic events will be impressive in their scale and beauty.

As are reported NASA experts, the year will begin with a partial parade of planets. Already in January, six of the seven planets of the solar system will form an arc in the sky, which can be seen immediately after sunset. All planets except Uranus and Neptune will be visible to the naked eye. This rare phenomenon will last for several weeks, gradually ending in the spring, when the planets begin to fall out of alignment.

In 2025, there will be two partial solar eclipses: March 29 and September 21. The first will be visible from the territory of Ukraine, while the second will be visible only in Australia and Antarctica.

Also, Ukrainians will be able to observe two total lunar eclipses, which will take place during the full moon in March and September. At moments when the Moon enters the darkest part of the Earth’s shadow, it acquires a reddish hue, creating a spectacular phenomenon called the “Blood Moon”.

Three supermoons will grace the sky in October, November and December. During these periods, the full moon will appear larger and brighter due to its closest orbit to Earth. The November supermoon promises to be especially spectacular, when the Moon will approach our planet at a distance of only 356,980 kilometers.

Due to the peak of solar activity in 2025, the number of aurora borealis is expected to increase. Although the exact dates of the auroras are difficult to predict, they can be seen during magnetic storms. The brightness and frequency of such phenomena will be higher than in previous years.

Meteor showers such as the Perseids in August and the Geminids in December will be among the most spectacular events. Ukrainians will also be able to see the Lyrids in April, the Orionids in October, and the Leonids in November. It is best to observe these phenomena in places with minimal lighting and during a dim moon.

The year 2025 promises to be a real gift for astronomy lovers. Numerous phenomena that will decorate the night sky will become not only a wonderful sight, but also a reminder of the greatness and mystery of the cosmos.
