KNU students announced a boycott of the administration due to the statements of Professor Vasylenko

Student Parliament of the Taras Shevchenko Institute of Journalism of KNU announced boycott of the administration due to the scandalous statements of the teacher Mykyta Vasylenko and his sexist statements.

“In connection with the systematic speeches of the teacher of the Institute of Journalism of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, Mykyta Kimovich Vasylenko, on pro-Russian platforms, sexist statements and the promotion of Russian narratives, the Student Parliament of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Journalism announces boycotts of the institute’s administration”, the statement says.

The student parliament stopped cooperation with the administration of the institute, insisting on the immediate dismissal of Vasylenko. The statement emphasized that these are only initial measures and if the administration ignores the students’ demands, their actions will be intensified. The parliament called on the university management to promptly resolve the situation and ensure compliance with state values, academic standards and students’ rights.

The scandal erupted after Vasylenko said on the air of politnavigator.net that “the appearance of foreign troops in Ukraine will improve the demographic situation.” The teacher argued that “at least 40,000 well-off men who did not go to the front but were brought up on good European food” may be interested in “hungry” Ukrainian women whose husbands died in the war or were maimed.

Such statements caused outrage among students and the academic community, who demand immediate action from the university administration.
