At the Zaporizhzhia NPP, work on restoration of external power supply has begun
At the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, the restoration of external power supply through two power transmission lines has begun. Currently, the station is connected to diesel generators. Power restoration is planned at the expense of two lines of 330 and 750 kilovolts, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported.
“After intensive consultations, the process leading to the restoration of electricity supply outside the facility – through the “Dniprovska” and “Ferrosplavna-1”, said IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.
Currently, the power plant is supplied by seven diesel generators, another 13 are on duty and replace each other. The IAEA specialists, who are currently working on rotation at the ZNPP, did not record an increase in the temperature of the coolant in the reactors or spent fuel pools. At the same time, the agency’s team reported new explosions near the facility:
“On Tuesday night, team members heard five explosions one after the other, which occurred near the scene and shook the windows of their building, the IAEA said in a statement.
Let us remind you that on September 23, the tenth blackout since the beginning of the occupation was recorded at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP. According to the research of the international organization “Greenpeace Ukraine”, published on September 27 based on satellite images, the reason for the loss of the last power line is deliberate sabotage by the Russian military.
The European Union called on Russia to immediately stop hostilities near the station and restore external power supply. The EU also emphasized that the only way to reduce the risks is to withdraw Russian troops from the territory of the ZNPP and return it to the control of Ukraine.
