Austrian court allows Naftogaz to forcibly collect 120 million euros from Russia

The Austrian court passed a decision allowing the Naftogaz company to start forcible recovery of 120 million euros from Russia due to assets located on the territory of the country. This became part of the case regarding compensation for Naftogaz property illegally seized by Russia in the annexed Crimea. About this reported on the company’s official website.

The decision envisages the possibility of auctioning more than 20 real estate properties belonging to Russia in Austria, the total value of which exceeds 120 million euros. Similar processes are ongoing in other countries.

Serhiy Koretskyi, the head of the board of NJSC Naftogaz, called this decision a “practical step” and emphasized that the company continues its initiatives to forcibly collect funds from the Russian Federation in various jurisdictions.

It will be recalled that in April 2025, the arbitration court in Paris ruled in favor of Naftogaz in the case against Russia regarding compensation for damages caused as a result of the temporary occupation of Crimea. The process started back in October 2016.

The lost property included special permits for the use of subsoil, equipment and infrastructure, rights to operate pipelines and gas storage facilities, ownership shares in the gas transportation system, as well as more than 675 million cubic meters of gas in underground storage facilities.

Despite the arbitration decision, Russia refuses to comply with the court ruling. In response, Naftogaz launched an international enforcement campaign, the main goal of which is to enforce the arbitration award in countries where the Russian Federation has assets.
