“Before announcing the package of weapons, we need to pay attention to when we will have it”: Zavitnevich

Oleksandr Zavitnevich, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, said in BBC interview, that Ukraine faced significant delays in the supply of weapons announced in military aid packages.
According to Zavitnevich, the biggest delays are observed on the part of the USA, Ukraine’s main partner. He noted that one to three months may pass between the announcement of the aid package and the actual arrival of weapons in Ukraine. This significantly affects the planning of military operations.
“The package that we expected from our main partner, the USA, was significantly delayed. In addition, it is important when the package is announced and when it actually arrives in Ukraine. And our last business trip was to the United States. We traveled and talked about the use of weapons on the territory of Russia. We said: dear colleagues, if the packages are announced, let’s do it together so that these weapons, which have already been announced, end up in Ukraine as soon as possible. I even showed the tables where they were clearly indicated the date of the package and the date of arrival of the weapon in the UK“rain,” Zavitnevich said.
During his visit to the USA, the Chairman of the Committee discussed this issue with his American colleagues and emphasized the need to speed up the delivery of already announced weapons.
Zavitnevich explained that the delays are related to the inspection and repair of weapons, as most of the supplied equipment was in use. He gave an example with air defense equipment, when the announced package did not contain all the necessary components for the functioning of the complex.
The Chairman of the Committee emphasized that the military is asked to take into account possible delays in the announcement of aid packages in order to be able to effectively plan operations.
