Bulgaria refused to investigate the incident with Ursula von der Leyen’s plane

Bulgarian authorities will not conduct an investigation into the causes of the GPS failure at the Plovdiv airport, which occurred during the arrival of the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s plane. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Bulgaria Rosen Zhelyazkov, reports Deutsche Welle.

“There is no reason to start an investigation”, Rosen Zhelyazkov noted, emphasizing that such cases “are not classified as hybrid threats”.

Zhelyazkov explained that GPS malfunctions, similar to those that affected the EC leader’s plane, happen quite often. According to him, there is “nothing unusual” in jamming the signal, and what happened is “one of the consequences” military conflicts.

“Since the beginning of the war against Ukraine, we have witnessed what is called electronic warfare… These obstacles are not aimed at a specific plane, concluded the Prime Minister of Bulgaria.

Let us remind you that on August 31, Ursula von der Leyen’s plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Bulgaria. It happened in the afternoon. The pilots were left without navigation due to the alleged interference of Russian systems jamming the GPS. As a result, during the landing, the crew had to navigate using paper maps.
