China promised to check the actions of its citizens who were captured by the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Lin Jian, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China stated, that the Chinese government intends to verify and evaluate the actions of its citizens who were captured in Ukraine, within the limits of national legislation.

The statement was made in response to the appeal of the captured Chinese with a request to the government of the People’s Republic of China to return to their homeland.

“The position of the Chinese government is very clear. We have issued numerous warnings and asked Chinese citizens to stay as far as possible from areas of armed conflict, avoid participating in armed conflicts in any form, and avoid participating in military operations by any side.”Lin noted.

He emphasized that the government structures of the People’s Republic of China continue to check the circumstances related to the stay of Chinese citizens in captivity during the war in Ukraine.

“The Chinese side will consider the behavior of individual citizens of the PRC abroad in accordance with the current legislation and take the necessary consular and other actions”, – assured the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Lin Jian added that China maintains a consistent position on the war in Ukraine, which is to support peace talks to end the conflict.

“We ask all relevant parties to correctly understand the objective and fair position of China and refrain from political manipulation and use of this situation (with Chinese citizens captured in Ukraine, – ed.) for their own PR or advertising”, – concluded the diplomat.
