Czech Republic appoints ambassador to Russia after three-year pause

The Czech Republic has appointed a new ambassador to Russia after a three-year hiatus, the experienced diplomat Daniel Kostoval. It is expected that the newly appointed ambassador will start his mission at the beginning of next year, after receiving the consent (agreement) from the Russian side.
“Key countries that are strategic allies of the Czech Republic – Great Britain, France, Germany, Poland and the USA – have ambassadors in Russia. I wish the ambassador a lot of strength in this difficult mission of promoting Czech interests.”, – said the head of the Foreign Ministry of the Czech Republic Jan Lipavskyi.
Daniel Kostoval is an experienced diplomat with many years of experience. He started working in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic in 1996, where he held the positions of director of the departments of security policy, Northern and Eastern Europe. Subsequently, he worked in the permanent representation of the Czech Republic at NATO, as well as in the embassies of the Czech Republic in Moscow and Washington. In 2013-2018, Kostoval held the position of First Deputy Minister of Defense, where he was responsible for strategy, foreign relations and military procurement.
It is worth noting that the Czech Republic is actively advocating for restrictions on the movement of Russian diplomats in the Schengen area and is promoting relevant sanctions initiatives within the framework of the European Union.
