Denmark will purchase long-range weapons capable of hitting targets on the territory of the Russian Federation

Denmark will purchase high-precision, long-range weapons capable of hitting targets on the territory of Russia, even in the absence of a direct threat of an attack on the Scandinavian country. This was stated by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, reports Reuters.

“There is no doubt that Russia will pose a threat to Europe and Denmark for many years to come”, explained Mette Frederiksen.

Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen clarified that the purchase may include missiles and drones capable of hitting targets on enemy territory. At the same time, he did not disclose the amount of funding and specific types of weapons that are planned to be purchased.

“The war in Ukraine shows the importance of having the ability to strike back or strike deep, as well as having an integrated echeloned air defense in conjunction with ground air defense,, Poulsen noted.

Later, the Russian ambassador in Copenhagen, Volodymyr Barbin, called the rationale for the need to be armed with such weapons “outright madness”.

“ No one, anywhere and never in the world even thought of publicly threatening a nuclear state”, he emphasized.

Frederiksen commented on Barbin’s words:

“Russia is trying to threaten Europe and NATO so that we do not protect our people and borders. Of course, we will not allow ourselves to be intimidated.
