Deputy Prime Minister of Great Britain resigned after admitting underpayment of real estate tax
UK Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner has announced her resignation after admitting she underpaid property tax on a new home. This, she said, “damaged her boss, Prime Minister ’Kir Starmer”, reported Reuters agency.
“I deeply regret my decision not to seek additional specialist tax advice. I take full responsibility for this mistake. Considering the results of the investigation and the consequences for my family, I have decided to resign, Reiner wrote in her letter to Starmer.
In response, the Prime Minister noted that she considers this to be the right step, although she admitted that the decision was not easy for her:
“Personally, I am very sorry that you left the government. Even if you are not part of the government, you will remain a major figure in our party.
An independent adviser on ministerial standards concluded that Rayner breached the code when she ignored warnings in legal advice she relied on to get expert help in a difficult financial situation.
“It is with deep regret that I have to inform you that under the circumstances I believe the Code has been violated”, the councilor said, referring to the rules that ensure political behavior meets public service standards.
At the beginning of the week, Reiner turned to an independent adviser, admitting a mistake in paying taxes. In an interview, she talked about creating a trust fund for one of her sons, who was disabled for life as a result of an injury.
Rainer, 45, became the eighth and oldest member of Keir Starmer’s government to resign. It became the most devastating blow to the government. after the Prime Minister expressed his full support for her at the beginning of the scandal, when the official was first accused of willful tax evasion at the prescribed rate.
