Directors of Ukrainian airports receive salaries even in closed skies
Even under the conditions of closed airspace due to the full-scale invasion of Russia, the directors of Ukrainian civilian airports continue receive salaries. Among them are the heads of airports that have been destroyed by missile strikes, as well as those that have not been functioning for many years.
The General Director of Boryspil Airport Oleksandr Dubrevskyi declared more than 4 million hryvnias in salary in 2022 and almost 3.8 million hryvnias in 2023. He explained that the airport, although it is not working according to its main purpose, maintains the infrastructure in technical readiness, is engaged in improving security systems and provides personnel training. Some employees continue to perform their duties on a full-time basis, and training centers are operational.
Oleksandr Nesterenko, director of Kyiv (Zhulyani) airport, received 693.2 thousand hryvnias in 2022 and 652.1 thousand in 2023. Oleksandr Konyakhin, acting director of Zaporizhzhia airport, earned more than 1 million hryvnias for each of these two years.
In Lviv, the director of the airport Tetyana Romanovska declared 906 thousand hryvnias in salary in 2022 and 872.8 thousand hryvnias in 2023.
Airport managers in cities where the infrastructure is completely destroyed or non-functioning are also paid. For example, the director of the airport in Donetsk, Vladyslav Blizniuk, whose company is currently registered in Slovyansk, declared 119.3 thousand hryvnias in 2022 and 309.2 thousand in 2023.
