US President Donald Trump signed a decree to launch the Gold Card visa program. It provides foreigners who make “significant financial contributions to the United States” an opportunity to obtain the right to reside in the country in an accelerated manner. This is reported on the White House website.
“The Biden administration’s lax immigration policies have allowed cartels, terrorists and criminals to exploit our borders, flooding communities and forcing states of emergency in border towns. The Biden administration also allowed abuse of the asylum process, overloading resources without taking into account the economic and security interests of the United States, Trump noted.
According to him, the program “golden card” provides for priority entry to those who make “significant contributions to American society,” including successful entrepreneurs, investors, and businessmen.
The decree also aligns federal immigration policy with the interests of the country and should contribute to the economic growth of the United States. According to the new rules, foreign nationals will be able to obtain a “golden card” by making a financial contribution to the US Department of Commerce: $1 million for individuals and $2 million for companies that will purchase it for their employees.
“The decree provides that these contributions will serve as evidence of exceptional business ability and benefit to the country, speeding up the consideration of cases taking into account legal and security considerations”, the White House website says.
The raised funds are planned to be sent to a special fund to support the American economy and industry. The presentation of the program took place the day before in the Oval Office. US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said that the “gold card” will replace the current EB-1 and EB-2 visa programs for individuals who have “exceptional value” for the state. He called the new system “an effective way to attract investments and increase revenues for the US budget”. According to the minister’s estimates, this program is capable of providing about 100 billion dollars in revenue.
