Donald Trump’s team loses third cabinet member due to alcohol and public funds scandal

US Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-Deremer has officially announced her resignation from her post. This decision was preceded by a months-long investigation into the official’s wrongdoing and inappropriate behavior.

According to information from the Wall Street Journal, the official announced her intention to move to work in the private sector, while assuring that she would continue to protect the interests of American workers. US President Donald Trump commented on this decision, expressing gratitude for her work.

“Thank you for the great courage to stand your ground,” the US President said.

Lori Chavez-Deremer became the third representative of the US Cabinet to leave her post in the past two months. Earlier, the US President dismissed Homeland Security Secretary Christy Noem and Attorney General Pam Bondi. The current dismissal took place against the backdrop of serious allegations that concern not only the head of the department personally, but also members of her family and closest aides.

In particular, the US Minister of Labor is accused of misusing budget funds and directing government grants to political allies. In addition to financial abuse, ministry employees complained about the creation of a “toxic atmosphere.” The investigation also includes allegations of a personal relationship with a security guard and reports of alcohol consumption in the workplace.

The behavior of the former government official’s relatives caused a special resonance. Lori Chavez-Deremer’s husband was previously banned from entering the ministry premises due to complaints from staff about unwanted advances.

One of the employees even contacted the Washington police with a statement about sexual assault, but the federal prosecutor’s office decided not to press formal charges. The family’s lawyers called these accusations a planned attempt to pressure the official.

After the resignation, it is expected that the planned meeting of the US Secretary of Labor with the inspector general will not take place. She was also scheduled to testify at congressional hearings on her department’s performance in the near future. The White House is currently preparing to nominate a new candidate for the vacant position as part of an ongoing government reorganization.
