Enhanced security measures near cemeteries on memorial days: what to expect for Ukrainians (video)
On the memorial days that fall in May, police patrols will be increased near cemeteries throughout Ukraine. According to Yulia Girdvilis, deputy head of the National Police Communications Department, more than 12,000 law enforcement officers will be involved in maintaining law and order.
Memorial services are expected to take place at more than 9,000 cemeteries in various regions of the country.
“Police outfits will be on duty near the cemeteries. And of course, in case of detection of suspicious persons or appeals of citizens pointing to such persons, they will react immediately. Can selectively check people. And the main task is to avoid any offenses or provocations,Girdvilis said.
The spokeswoman noted that it is everyone’s choice to visit cemeteries on these days or not. But Ukrainians should understand that a cemetery is an open area. That is, it is an increased risk, but unfortunately, there are no shelters nearby.
The police called on Ukrainians to be careful in cemeteries, to limit the time of their stay, and to remember that there are regions in which visiting cemeteries are prohibited, in particular:
- Zhytomyr,
- Donetsk,
- Khersonsk
- Kharkiv region.
