European satellites called on Russia at the UN not to jam

The Committee of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) at the UN calls on Russia to stop interfering with the operation of European satellite systems. The organization reported that complaints that the Russian Federation jams satellite signals have already been received from several countries – Ukraine, the Netherlands, France, Sweden and Luxembourg.

Countries reported that interference created by GPS navigation system satellites. This, among other things, interfered with the control of aircraft flights. In addition, the broadcast of some children’s TV channels was interrupted by the showing of footage taken during the Russian-Ukrainian war and the demonstration of scenes of cruelty.

The Committee of the International Telecommunication Union believes that the functioning of the satellites of the GPS navigation system was interfered with by ground stations located in the Moscow, Kaliningrad and Pavlivka regions.

It will be recalled that a few months ago in London it was announced that Russia could jam the GPS signal of the plane of the British Defense Minister Grant Shepps during his return from Poland to Great Britain. According to the newspaper The Telegraph, during the first four months of 2024, Russia jammed the GPS signal of dozens of flights of the British Air Force over Eastern Europe. Sweden and the Baltic countries have also accused Russia of creating obstacles to the operation of satellites.

Moscow denies violation of ITU rules and complains about possible satellite interference by NATO countries.
