Ex-official of the Ministry of Defense, who is suspected of embezzlement of 1.5 billion hryvnias, received another suspicion

On January 14, employees of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) reported the suspicion to the former director of one of the departments of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and two managers of the state enterprise. They are accused of supplying combat units with unsuitable large-caliber machine guns. About this reported DBR press office.

The SBI noted that this exhibitor was previously suspected of embezzling almost 1.5 billion hryvnias during the purchase of shells for the Armed Forces — this case is still at the stage of investigation.

The new procedure refers to the delivery of 400 certified large-caliber machine guns for the front in 2022. However, instead of high-quality weapons, only 200 units of cheap analogues got to the military, which did not meet the technical requirements and turned out to be unusable.

“The 200 machine guns purchased at state expense did not have any markings, relevant technical documentation, and any accompanying documents. During their combat use, the weapons could not fire continuously and after the first shots, they generally failed due to the destruction of parts and mechanisms.

Because of this, the state budget suffered losses of more than 193 million hryvnias, and the Ukrainian military put themselves in danger.” – says the message.

The ex-director of the Ministry of Defense is suspected of embezzlement of property through abuse of official position on a particularly large scale, as well as of obstructing the legal activities of the Armed Forces, which led to grave consequences (Part 5 of Article 191, Part 2 of Article 114-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 15 years.
