Finland allocated 2 million euros to support Ukrainian pensioners living in frontline areas. Thanks to this contribution, the UN’s World Food Program (WFP) has extended its program until the end of 2024. About this informs Ministry of Reintegration.
Financial aid will be provided through the UN WFP project, which has been in effect since August 2023. According to it, pensioners with low pensions who live in areas of active or possible hostilities can count on financial support by supplementing their pensions.
During the year of operation of the humanitarian project, more than 360,000 pensioners received payments. Thanks to the financial support of Finland, the UN WFP was able to continue this important program until the end of 2024.
In total, since the beginning of the full-scale war, Finland has provided 11 million euros for humanitarian projects of the UN WFP in Ukraine. 8 million of this sum was used to provide food aid to Ukrainians in the frontline areas and financial support for the most vulnerable categories, another 1 million euros was used for demining agricultural lands in Kharkiv region.
Finland’s support is critical for providing the basic needs of Ukrainian pensioners in the frontline areas, who have found themselves in difficult conditions due to hostilities. This aid also helps to stabilize the socio-economic situation and support the most vulnerable sections of the population in Ukraine.
