Five new arrests made in Paris in connection with Louvre robbery
Five new arrests have been made in various areas of Paris and its suburbs, including near Auberville in the department of Saint-Saint-Denis, as part of the investigation into the Louvre robbery. This was announced by prosecutor Laure Becqueau, reported by the BFMTV channel.
“One of the five men arrested was indeed one of the investigators’ targets, he was in our field of vision. There is DNA evidence that, in our opinion, links him to the robbery, ” — said Lor Becqueau.
The prosecutor noted that evening and night searches did not allow the stolen jewels to be returned, but emphasized that with each new search and hearing, “the investigation is gaining momentum”.
As a reminder, on October 19, thieves stole jewels of French queens and empresses worth about $102 million from one of the world’s most famous museums. French Justice Minister Gerard Darmanin called this crime an event that put the country in a “deplorable” light. The opposition criticized the government and declared it a “national humiliation,” while French President Emmanuel Macron described the theft as an “attack on heritage” and promised to return the stolen jewels.
On October 26, French police arrested two suspects in the case. One of them was arrested at Charles de Gaulle Airport before a flight to Algiers, and the other in a suburb of Paris. On October 29, the prosecutor leading the investigation said that the suspects had partially confessed to their involvement in the crime. Despite this, the stolen jewels have not yet been found.
