Football club “Dynamo” Kyiv fired head coach Oleksandr Shovkovskyi
Football club Dynamo Kyiv on its official website announced the dismissal of head coach Oleksandr Shovkovskyi and his coaching staff.
The reason for the dismissal was the team’s unsatisfactory results: Dynamo lost four of its last five matches, and the final straw was the defeat by Omonia in the Conference League. The current champion of Ukraine currently occupies only seventh place in the Premier League standings and has not scored a single point in the last three rounds – a situation that has never happened to the Kyiv team before.
The duties of the head coach have been temporarily entrusted to the coach of the U-19 team, Igor Kostyuk.
According to information of the Telegram channel TaToTake, the decision to dismiss Shovkovsky was made by the club’s president, Igor Surkis, over the phone. Oleksandr Shovkovskyi learned of his dismissal during a telephone conversation.
Shovkovskyi’s resignation became known about an hour after Dynamo’s defeat by Omonia in the Conference League, which was the third consecutive failure of the Kyiv team with a score of 0:2.
Shovkovskyi led Dynamo in 90 matches, became the champion of the Ukrainian Premier League and won 52 matches, played 20 matches in a draw and suffered 18 defeats. Under his leadership, the club also reached the final of the Ukrainian Cup, where they lost to Shakhtar.
