Former Mayor of Odessa Gennady Trukhanov appealed the preventive measure
Former mayor of Odessa Hennadiy Trukhanov filed an appeal against the decision of the Pechersky District Court of Kyiv, which chose a preventive measure in the form of 24-hour house arrest for him. This was reported by the suspect’s lawyer Oleksandr Lysak.
The Court of Appeal has not yet set a date for considering the complaint.
On October 31, the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv ruled to impose a preventive measure of 24-hour house arrest on Trukhanov.
On October 29, nine people, including former Odessa mayor Gennady Trukhanov, his deputies, and city council officials, were notified of suspicion of official negligence that led to the deaths of people during the storm on September 30.
According to the investigation, the former mayor improperly performed his duties and failed to ensure the proper functioning of the drainage systems, although Odessa has been flooded for many years. On the day of the tragedy, September 30, he failed to properly notify the population and ensure the readiness of the civil defense system. According to the investigation, this was one of the reasons for the large-scale flooding and the death of nine people.
Hennadiy Trukhanov himself said that the suspicion came as a surprise to him. According to him, the city council acted continuously, warning residents about worsening weather, and problems with the drainage system require significant financial resources. He promised to provide documents that, in his opinion, confirm the work of city services on the day of the natural disaster.
