The first in Ukraine: a department of inclusive accessibility and barrier-free environment was created in Kharkiv

The mayor of the city Igor Terekhov noted that thanks to this, everyone who lives in Kharkiv will be able to freely access any service or public places.

Kharkiv became the first Ukrainian city to establish a department of inclusive accessibility and barrier-free environment. About this reported Mayor Ihor Terekhov.

According to him, we are talking not only about some technical shortcomings, but about the urgent need to start forming a completely different philosophy, since such conditions will ensure that every resident of Kharkiv, regardless of age, gender or health, has free access to any service or public places Implementation of all architectural and infrastructural projects will take place only when they involve inclusive considerations.

“By the way, let’s be honest, ensuring equal access to participation in public life is our direct duty, in particular, to the participants and veterans of hostilities, who are sacrificing themselves for us and our country right now. Therefore, in the near future, we will begin a comprehensive audit of the state of accessibility in Kharkiv districts and determine the priority needs of the community. Of course, with the participation of the community itself,” said the mayor.

Terekhov expressed his gratitude to the deputies of the city council, who during the July 2 session supported his proposal to create a unique mechanism for the development of Kharkiv in the future for Ukraine.
