France and Germany create coordination group on nuclear issues

France and Germany have established a joint coordination group for cooperation in the field of nuclear deterrence. This was announced by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

He noted that the initiative belongs to him and French President Emmanuel Macron, and they plan to implement it a number of concrete measures.

“Emmanuel Macron and I have established a coordination group on nuclear issues, in which we will coordinate on deterrence issues. We are planning concrete steps by the end of this year, including Germany’s conventional participation in France’s nuclear exercises,” the Chancellor said.

On March 2, the President of France, which is the only nuclear power on the European continent, announced plans to expand its nuclear arsenal and its readiness, if necessary, to deploy nuclear weapons in allied countries. Macron also named eight states that are interested in the nuclear deterrence proposed by France.
