From next year, a ban on the import of a popular category of cars into Ukraine comes into force

From January 1, 2025, new ones will come into force in Ukraine rules regarding the import of cars. They will significantly limit the number of vehicles that can be brought from abroad.

These changes, previously postponed due to the war, will require compliance of imported cars with the Euro-6 environmental standard. This means that only cars manufactured after 2015 will be allowed for import.

Currently, it is possible to import cars starting with the “Euro-2” standard (produced after 1996), but innovations will change this approach. The new rules will cover trucks, semi-trailer trucks, buses, special equipment (eg cranes, tow trucks) and new passenger cars that will be registered for the first time in Ukraine.

Used passenger cars that were already in operation and registered outside the country will remain available for import under the old rules: they will be allowed to be imported if they meet the Euro-2 standard and above.

Electric vehicles that do not have internal combustion engines will not be subject to the restrictions. Also, the ban will not apply to cars imported for the Armed Forces of Ukraine or as humanitarian aid.
