German Defense Minister presents new military strategy

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius presented the country’s first military strategy aimed at radically modernizing the national armed forces. The main goal of the document is to transform the Bundeswehr into the most powerful conventional army in Europe. This decision was made against the backdrop of growing security challenges and preparations for potential military threats from Russia.

According to the new strategy, the number of active-duty personnel in the German Armed Forces will remain at 260,000. At the same time, together with the reserve components, the total number of forces should be at least 460 thousand people.

The document officially states that Russia is creating the conditions for possible military aggression against NATO member states.

“Our ambition is and must be to become the strongest conventional army in Europe,” the German Federal Minister of Defense emphasized.

The strategy identifies the development of offensive and defensive capabilities in space, cyberspace, and the information sphere as one of the priority areas. It is also planned to significantly increase the firepower of the units through the purchase of high-precision long-range weapons and the latest air defense systems.

“Russia is creating the conditions for a military attack on NATO countries”, — the author of the document summarized.

The strategy places special emphasis on the importance of interagency cooperation to counter hybrid methods of influence. The Bundeswehr must integrate its actions with other state institutions, while focusing on performing tasks that require the direct use of military force. This will ensure a comprehensive approach to protecting the sovereignty of the state.
