German police conduct large-scale raid on suspicion of human trafficking

Hundreds of German law enforcement officers took part in a large-scale operation carried out on suspicion of human trafficking in several locations in the state of Baden-Württemberg, as well as in Berlin. About this reports Spiegel.

A major raid targeting suspected human trafficking and tax evasion suspects has been underway in Baden-Württemberg and Berlin since the evening of November 13. According to the Offenburg federal police, between 600 and 700 customs, federal police and tax authorities participated in the special operation.

The main activities were carried out in Baden-Württemberg and covered, in particular, the cities of Baden-Baden, Böblingen, Lörrach and the districts of Orenau, Zollernalb and Enz. Searches were also carried out in Berlin.

The operation was initiated by the Baden-Baden prosecutor’s office. The suspects are charged with smuggling people from third countries and tax and wage evasion related to the activities of organized crime groups. As of the morning of November 14, the special operation was completed.

As a reminder, on November 13, law enforcement officers conducted a large-scale operation in 12 federal states of Germany against the spread of Islamist propaganda on the Internet. According to the Federal Criminal Police Office of Germany (BKA), on the morning of November 13, law enforcement officers conducted more than 100 operations and executed more than 50 search warrants across the country. The BKA reported that the suspects are mainly young people and teenagers who act as “relevant recipients and distributors of Islamist propaganda on the Internet.”
