Great Britain has banned Israeli citizens from attending the College of Defense Studies in London
The British Ministry of Defense has banned Israeli citizens from attending a prestigious defense studies college in London amid the escalating war in the Gaza Strip. reports Reuters.
Despite maintaining a close alliance with Israel, recently London has been trying to put pressure on the government of this country because of the events in Gaza. In particular, in July, Great Britain threatened to recognize the Palestinian state if Israel does not take measures to alleviate the suffering in the enclave.
“The decision of the Israeli government to further escalate the military operation in the Gaza Strip is wrong. Therefore, we have decided to suspend the future participation of Israelis in courses conducted by Great Britain, said a representative of the British Ministry of Defence.
In response, the director general of the Israeli Ministry of Defense, Amir Baram, sent a letter to the college and the British Ministry of Defense, where he called such a decision “discriminatory” and such, which contradicts the traditions of tolerance and decency of Britain.
“The exclusion of Israel is an extremely shameful act of disloyalty to an ally at war”, the letter says.
Baram also emphasized that in British military courses special attention is paid to compliance with international humanitarian law. Currently, less than five Israeli Defense Force servicemen are training on non-combat academic courses in Great Britain.
