Hasidim celebrate Rosh Hashanah in Uman: goods and services for pilgrims are priced in dollars

The celebration of the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, has begun in Uman, and will last from October 2 to 4. Hasidim from all over the world continue to come to the city to celebrate at the grave of their spiritual mentor, Rabbi Nachman.

As of the morning of October 2, more than 25,000 pilgrims have already arrived in Uman, and up to 50,000 guests are expected by the end of the holiday. The city came to life in a bright atmosphere filled with festive rituals and traditions.

Prices for goods and services have risen these days: a bottle of plain mineral water costs one dollar, and sugary sodas cost two dollars. Locals also offer luggage transportation services, which cost between $10 and $15. In addition, special barbershops have been created on the territory of the pilgrimage, where Hasidim can get traditional haircuts.

In order to ensure public order and security in Uman, the presence of Ukrainian and Israeli law enforcement officers and rescuers has been increased. The National Police urged women to refrain from visiting the pilgrimage area until 2:00 p.m. due to heightened security measures.
