High treason case involving MPs and former prosecutor sent to court
A Ukrainian MP and four other people will be tried on charges of high treason and creating a criminal organisation. This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).
According to RBC-Ukraine, the accused include Oleksandr Dubinsky, Andriy Derkach and former prosecutor Konstantin Kulik.
The SBI submitted to the court an indictment against the current and former MPs, the former prosecutor, as well as the deputy chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces and his assistant.
Investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation and the Security Service of Ukraine detected this criminal organisation in November 2023. According to the investigation, at the request of Russian special services, they organised a campaign to discredit Ukraine in the international arena, which was intended to worsen diplomatic relations with the United States and create obstacles to Ukraine’s accession to the EU and NATO.
The investigation resulted in a suspicion of high treason against a current MP, who is currently in custody. His colleague was also served with a notice of suspicion.
‘In particular, they organised various media events where they spread fake news about the Ukrainian government and its Western partners,’ the official statement said.
