Iceland handed Ukraine 25 refrigerated containers for storing the bodies of the dead
25 modern refrigerated containers were delivered to Ukraine for storing the bodies of dead soldiers and civilians, including repatriated ones, for the purpose of further identification. This assistance was provided by the government of Iceland, reports the press service of the Ministry of Health.
Specialized equipment will be distributed among regional bureaus of forensic medical examination of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, which will make it possible to significantly strengthen their capabilities in conditions of full-scale war.
Refrigerated containers meet modern international standards and create additional conditions for proper storage of bodies in regional institutions. Their use will increase the number of simultaneously preserved bodies, which is especially important during periods of mass loss. This decision also has great humanitarian significance: the new equipment will speed up the transportation of bodies and reduce the time required for identification procedures, which, in turn, will allow the remains of the deceased to be handed over to their relatives for burial.
Receiving assistance was made possible thanks to the initiative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, which plays a leading role in coordinating the search for persons who have gone missing under special circumstances. The Ministry of Health, the Department of International Defense Cooperation of the Ministry of Defense and the Command of the Logistics Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine joined the implementation of the project. An important role in the implementation of the agreements was played by the Government of Iceland and the Embassy of Iceland in Ukraine, which currently works in Warsaw.
Thus, the transfer of refrigerated containers not only strengthens the infrastructural capacity of the Ukrainian system of forensic medical examination, but also demonstrates an example of international solidarity and support for Ukraine in the most difficult period.
