Illegal extraction of kaolin worth almost 190 million hryvnias was exposed in Cherkasy region

In the Zvenigorod district of the Cherkasy region, the illegal activities of the director of the structural unit and a specialist of one of the local enterprises, who organized the illegal extraction of minerals of national importance – secondary kaolins for almost 190 million hryvnias, were discovered and documented. This is reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
According to the investigation, the company has been extracting for a long time outside the limits of a special permit for the use of subsoil and outside the contour of counting reserves, which is a violation of the legislation on the protection and use of subsoil.
As a result of such actions, approximately 14,000 tons of kaolin were illegally mined, causing losses to the state in the amount of over UAH 189 million. Both employees were notified of suspicion under Part 4 of Art. 240 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of the rules of protection and use of subsoil.
The pre-trial investigation is conducted under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor’s Office of the Cherkasy Regional Prosecutor’s Office. Investigators of the Main Department of the National Police in the Cherkasy region are conducting an investigation under the operational support of the Department of Strategic Investigations in the Cherkasy region of the DSR NPU.
