In 2024, the State Customs Service detected 7,259 cases of customs rules violations worth almost UAH 17 billion

In the period from January to September 2024, the customs authorities of Ukraine detected 7,259 cases of violation of customs rules, with a total value of almost UAH 17 billion. This is a significant increase compared to the previous year, when a much lower volume of violations was recorded for the same period. In fact, the cost of violations increased by 2.5 times. These data provided by the State Customs Service indicate that the customs authorities have strengthened their control and intensified their efforts to detect violations.

According to the customs protocols, in 2,273 cases, the items that were the objects of offences were temporarily seized. The total value of the seized goods is UAH 430 million, and it falls into several key categories:

  • Industrial goods – the largest part of the seized items, totalling UAH 304 million.
  • Vehicles – more than UAH 68 million worth of seized goods.
  • Foodstuffs – in the amount of UAH 52 million.
  • Foreign currency – seized in the amount of UAH 6 million.

Administrative fines were also imposed in 2,161 cases, including violations recorded in previous periods. The total amount of fines imposed is UAH 58.6 million, of which UAH 57.9 million has already been paid to the state budget. This indicates a high level of enforcement of customs decisions.

In terms of referring cases to court, customs authorities submitted 3,969 cases of customs rules violations totalling almost UAH 16.6 billion. Following court hearings, decisions were made to confiscate goods and impose fines totalling UAH 1.9 billion. This includes both new cases and those opened in previous years, which demonstrates the active work of the customs authorities in controlling and enforcing customs rules.
