In Beijing, due to strong winds, people weighing up to 50 kg were advised not to leave their homes

In Beijing, the capital of China, the most powerful wind in the last 70 years was recorded. For the first time in a decade, the city has declared an orange alert level, and people weighing up to 50 kilograms are urged to stay at home. About this informs BBC.

According to forecasters, in the coming days several Chinese cities will be covered by winds of up to 150 km/h moving from Mongolia. Bad weather is not uncommon at this time of year, but this time the storm could be the strongest in seven decades.

In connection with the danger, Beijing has declared an orange alert level for the first time in 10 years – the second most significant in the weather warning system. In addition to gale-force winds, the city is expected to experience a sharp drop in temperature — by 13°C during the day, coinciding with the peak of bad weather.

“This strong wind is extreme. It will blow for a long time, cover a large area and be catastrophic.”, – the Beijing Meteorological Service reported.

Over the weekend, parks and tourist locations were closed in the Chinese capital, and a number of events, including the first humanoid robot half-marathon, were postponed. So far, wind and rain have brought down 400 trees in the city. Dust storms also covered the northern regions of China.
