On December 31, a shooting occurred in Kharkiv during a document check – a man opened fire on a serviceman of the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center. The incident occurred at around 09:00 on Kharkiv Divisions Street in the Nemyshlyanskyi district of the city. The soldier was not injured – the bullet only damaged his uniform.
The Kharkiv Region Police reported:
“The 42-year-old driver fired a shot at a serviceman of the Territorial Center for Recruiting and Social Support, after which he fled the scene.”
After that, a special police operation was launched in the city to search for the attacker.
It took law enforcement officers several hours to locate the suspect and detain him in accordance with the procedural procedure. The police noted:
“Within several hours, the police established the location of the perpetrator and detained him in a procedural manner. A pre-trial investigation has been initiated into this fact under Part 4 of Article 296 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.”
The sanction of this article provides for up to seven years of imprisonment. Currently, the man is being prepared to be charged.
