In Odesa, a 28-year-old woman will be tried for publicly insulting the State flag of Ukraine and gross violation of public order. The event took place on the European Square near the memorial to the fallen Ukrainian military. The woman defecated on the lawn, where blue and yellow flags are installed in memory of the fallen heroes-defenders, after which she used the state symbols as a hygienic means.
In a few hours law enforcement officers established the identity of the offender and searched for her near the railway station. She turned out to be a 28-year-old local resident who admitted her guilt.
Investigation and prosecution
Under the procedural guidance of the Primorye District Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Odesa, investigators of the police department of the Odesa District Police Department No. 1 gathered enough evidence and charged the woman with part 1 of Art. 338 (public insult to the State Flag of Ukraine) and Part 1 of Art. 296 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. For these crimes, she faces up to three years in prison.

The video and photos of the incident, which spread on the Internet, caused public outrage. Law enforcement officers quickly responded to the situation and conducted an investigation. The investigation has been completed, the indictment has been sent to the court.
